RE: Curriculum "reforms"

It is three weeks into the new semester and what was initially obvious to many of us is becoming abundantly clear to all: two of our largest courses, comprising a total of 36 sections, have been ruined under the guise of "reform". Statistics I, with its wildly unrealistic new syllabus, has been rendered unteachable. Math 095 [remedial arithmetic], with its pathetically silly "paradigms", is a paradigm of incompetent design. The idiotic text that has been adopted actually introduces percent on page 1, before fractions or decimals have been mentioned! Is it a coincidence that a favored crony is co-author of this text?

The education of hundreds of students is being disrupted by courses they cannot possibly comprehend. Furthermore, our leadership instructs us that similar assaults are in the works for remedial algebra, precalculus and calculus. We are openly threatened to espouse this folly under penalty of exclusion from teaching these courses! What happened to academic freedom?

How much of our curriculum must go down the toilet until someone objects? Have we abdicated our responsibilities as professional educators to become puppets for an increasingly corrupt political hierarchy that quietly pursues its own hidden agendas, completely oblivious to the needs of students?
